How can I train for a high school sport and what sport should I do?

Question by bobobahugh: How can I train for a high school sport and what sport should I do?
I am a sophomore in high school, and I’m totally out of shape, but I want to play a sport. It is too late for me to do, a sport in decline this year, so that I should start this spring or next fall. The problem is I have no idea what they play or how you train them! Badminton, basketball, hockey, lacrosse, softball and Tennis. Was should I do: Of the sports that my school are those who sound the most fun I enjoy, has?

i’d go for tennis. you can start training now since this sport can be played either outdoors or sometimes indoors (some gyms have indoor courts)…you’ll have the upper hand when spring comes. good luck!

you can do any sport but the training for each will be different. i play softball and really enjoy that. for training you should run sprints like the distance from home to first, or at most the distance from home to home, also you should work hitting off a tee work on other techniques often. for basketball you should run distance for stamina but also sprints. you should also try shooting around as often as possible and work on your form,

I play basketball alot. Tons of fun.

All you really need for that is a good eye for shooting in the hoop and of course for passing. If those two things sound bad then play it anyway. You’ll learn!

Track and field is your best bet, there are many events and not all include running if thats not something you are up for. I play football for my school and in spring I start track, I am a discus and shotput thrower and plan on doing some running events this year too. So look into it there should be something that interests you there.

you need to do a lot of jump roping weight lifting and running for the sport to get in shape. practice more on sprinting for basket ball, and fast running for a long period of time for lacrosse.

It’s not to late to join the softball team. I was the captain of my varsity softball team, and I know you could do it if you really wanted to! But it really would take some hard work, and challenges if your truly up for it. First I would advise you to take a walk every day! For atleast 30 mins, then you can start running once you feel healthy enough to begin joggin. Go at your own bodies pace, but try and still push yourself. If you eat healthy things it will help you towards your physical goals. It won’t be as hard for you. So if you drink sodas, STOP! I never drink any kinds of sodas, stick with water gatorade crystal lite, things like that. Then go to the batting cages as often as you can!!! The more practice the better you’ll be TRUST ME.. I didn’t believe that was sooo true till I actually saw how much practice can make you a better player! Find a friend who will throw the ball around with you. Find someone who might play and help with some pointers. All I know is it’s not to late to join the team! AND YOU CAN DO IT! If you practice for it! That’s your choice, so GO FOR IT! And have FUN!!! Lot’s of luck to you!!
